Anyone can throw on a big fake smile, tell you the things they think you want to hear, and try to sell you a Boston Terrier you may not want. A reputable Boston Terrier breeder is someone that you can ask a lot of questions of and they will not be offended and a reputable breeder is going to insist that you do your homework before buying. You will find that an honest breeder will hide nothing from you because an honest breeder has nothing to hide.

The first thing you can do to weed out the shady breeder is to check and see what national breeder registry they are listed with. The gold standard is the American Kennel Club but there are other registries so find out which one your breeder is associated with so you can see what kind of breeding standards they use when doing their business. Also check to make sure they are really listed with the registry, do not take their word on it. Remember you are checking someone out so do your own work.

You will never get better advice about any aspect of your dog’s life than from your vet. If you do not have a vet yet then the time to start a relationship with a vet is when you are looking for a Boston Terrier breeder. Your vet may have opinions on the breeders you are considering and may also have breeders to recommend to you. Always consult with your vet prior to dealing with any Boston Terrier breeder or any dog breeder of any kind.

Next you may benefit by talking to the local law enforcement officials in your area and ask them if they are familiar with any of the breeders you are considering. Needless to say, if the law is familiar with a breeder then you may want to steer very clear of that breeder and move on to someone that is not on a first name basis with the police in your town.

Your prospective Boston Terrier breeders is the one group that you need to make sure you talk to a lot before you make any final decisions about which breeder to go with. Find out what their policies and beliefs about breeding are and ask if they will be with you after the sale is done.

Find out what information they offer when they sell a dog and also pay attention to see if this is someone that you would feel comfortable buying your future family member from.

The relationship between breeder and owner goes on for many years and if you make the wrong breeder choice then that is something you may wind up regretting for a very long time.

In the end it is up to you and you should only make that determination after you have done more than sufficient research.
