Of all the different breeds of dog that you can choose from the Golden Retriever is definitely one of the most popular. There are many reasons for this, namely that the breed has such a friendly, outgoing personality and healthy, beautiful hair. There are a few things that you will need to consider before buying a Golden Retriever however, and this includes Golden Retriever health.
When it comes to their diet, the Golden Retriever should eat only premium food and it is important not to feed them too often. Most veterinarians and breeders recommend adult food of less than twenty-five percent protein instead of puppy food after three months of age. Also keep in mind that Golden Retrievers are known for their long beautiful coats and you want to make sure that they stay this way. Nutrition plays a major role in maintaining the health and beauty of this breed’s coat and more than anything this means choosing the right dog food.
The first thing you should do for your Golden Retriever health is choose the right dog food, and the first step here is to read the list of ingredients listed on the label. You want to make sure that a meat product and not a byproduct is listed as one of the main ingredients. Byproducts are simply filler foods such as chicken feet and bones, which are going to provide little to no nutrition to your dog.
You want to select a food that is balanced and which is going to provide all the essential nutrients to your dog, including water, protein and energy. Recognize the fact that the feeding directions that are noted on the labels can really only be estimated and therefore must be modified in order to fit individual pet needs. Depending on your dog’s age, activity level and even physiological conditions, all of these are going to play a major role in the Golden Retriever diet that they should have.
Creating the right diet for your pet is one of the best things you can do for their Golden Retriever health. It is imperative that you provide them with the nutrition that they need, and besides buying the right dog food this also refers to you making sure that they are getting plenty of exercise, and this means a walk at least once a day.
Get them outdoors as often as you can but there are also indoor dog treadmills that you can use to help ensure they are staying active.
Golden Retrievers can be absolutely gorgeous dogs, as long as they are well taken care of and given the attention that they crave. Consult with your vet to ensure that you understand all the care that is required to raise and maintain a healthy Golden Retriever.
By providing them with a healthy and well balanced diet you will be ensuring their health and their longevity.
