Pet owners like to have photos of their pets, and Pug owners are no exception. Taking pictures of their Pug is something many Pug owners want to do, as they want to be able to share their cute pet with others. Their Pug can seem like a real part of their family, so having photos of them seems natural. But posing for the camera isn’t a natural thing for the Pug! It can be frustrating to try to control the Pug’s natural behavior, like their short attention span and curiosity about things.

The Pug likes to show off and act like a clown, but that doesn’t necessary mean it will hold still or pose for the camera! But you don’t need to give up and forget about photos, or pay expensive fees to a professional photographer.

It’s natural to want to take pictures of all the cuteness. With some preparation ahead of time, the Pug owner will have much more of a chance of success. The natural traits of the Pug, like their short attention span, will have less of a chance of wrecking the photo session and frustrating the pet owner.

There are some things to keep in mind as you shoot photos of your Pug. One of the most important is the time and place you try to take the shots. If you will be outside, early morning or late afternoon will give you the best light, and have your Pug in front of something dark (foliage works well) if they are light and light if they are black (even a homemade backdrop will work). Be down at the Pug’s level, not taking photos from above. And be in close, the better to hold his attention and get that primo shot with the cute expression on his face!

As for keeping your Pug attentive, you can try a toy that squeaks or some food, depending on what tends to get your Pugs attention but does not compel him to run over to you. It can be a good idea to have a friend around to help with your Pug while you are fiddling with your camera. Some Pugs can only take photo sessions in short, small doses. If that’s the case with your Pug, so be it. Don’t fight against it, as no one will win doing that. Just try again another time soon, again in a small chunk rather than a long session.

Getting good Pug pictures can be simple if you remember the basics. Choose your background wisely, so that your Pug will stand out and not just be swallowed up against it (use a dark background for light Pug, light background for dark Pug, neither color in front of anything too busy).

Get down to Pug level so that you are right in front, and get in close. You will get better shots that way, with the light in your Pug’s eyes and a glisten to his fur. You will end up with photos of your Pug that you can be proud to show to others. You will enjoy telling them how you took the pictures yourself.

Be sure to also take some of your Pug while he is asleep, not only is that simply adorable but those are also Pug-proof and simple! If you follow these hints, you should end up with photos you love, and you will look forward to taking more photos as your Pug grows and does new cute things.
