Although you might not know it, you need to be very careful about the dog bowls and dishes you choose for feeding and watering your pooch. Some dogs do not like plastic bowls, some prefer elevated dog bowl, others may prefer stainless steel dog bowls. You get the idea. Every dog is different. Their personalities are different, so it only stands to reason that their preferences are different as well, especially when it comes to the dog food bowl they prefer.

Of course, the preferences of the owner factor in as well, for safety reasons. For example, ceramic dog food bowls are easier to chip. Those chips can attract and hold germs. That can be bad for your dog. It could lead to any number of infections, and you definitely do not want that to happen. As such, quite a few owners prefer a stainless steel dog water dish and food bowl. These bowls are easier to clean. They are resistant to scratches and chips as well.

Now that we have gone over the material of what the dog dish should be made of, it is now time to consider the size of your dog. Most large dogs liked to have raised dog bowls, while smaller dogs like small dog dishes, so you definitely want to take that into consideration when you are picking out your dogs bowl.

Big dogs for example, especially Great Danes and any larger breed may need to have a dog bowl stand so they do not strain their neck when they are leaning down to eat or drink. Dog stands are not all that expensive and they are totally worth it if you have a larger breed dog.

Using an elevated dog bowl is also an ideal way to discourage food fighting between your dogs. A lot of people these days, for instance, have a large dog and a small one. Perhaps it is a dachshund and a lab, or even a cocker spaniel and a Pomeranian mix. Either way, you get the idea. Using an elevated bowl for the larger breed can keep the little one from eating up all the food!

Sometimes, it may be necessary to try a few different water bowls and food dishes to make your dog happy. Do not spare the expense - remember, dogs are family members too! If your dog prefers ceramic or plastic to stainless steel, then that should not be a problem.

It is not uncommon for dogs who get along to be wary of sharing their food bowls. This is another instance where a dog food stand can be extremely beneficial. If you are averse to that, just make sure you have a set of bowls for each dog. Still, though, having the bowls on a stand can also prevent any kitty cats from getting into the puppy chow.

As you can see, you need to make sure that you pick the right bowl for your dog. After all, this incredible animal is part of your family and having the right dishes will make their food and drinks taste better and look better!
