Which Dog Breed Is Right For Your Family?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

by Lee Dobbins

When choosing a dog breed it is important to first look at your lifestyle and then at what type of dog breed fits that lifestyle. You need to be able to determine how much time a day you can devote to your dog including puppy training, socializing, classes and other activities. Puppies take up a lot of time that you may not have available.

You also need to determine if you or your family is allergic to any specific type of dog. Some individuals can tolerate specific types of breeds while others may have problems with any type of dog. Or perhaps you are the lucky one with no animal allergies.

Buying a purebred dog will be a large cost. Additionally there are other costs that most pet owners don’t think about until they have their new dog. There are many costs that accumulate once you have your dog, like shots, food, accessories, crates, inoculations, obedience school etc. Try and have an idea of the expected shocks so you don’t get stuck. You can’t simply give back a dog if all of a sudden you can’t afford it.

Your Siberian Husky Loves To Work

by Andrew Preston

All types of Siberian Husky dogs have one thing in common, which is that they trace their ancestry back to the sled dogs of the Northern Hemisphere. These early sled dogs were also called “Eskimo dogs”. Other descendants of the ancient Eskimo dogs include the Siberian Husky, Samoyed and Alaskan Malamute. All these modern sled dogs originated in several Northern Hemisphere countries like Siberia, Canada, Greenland and Labrador. The Siberian Husky gets its name from the Siberian region and from an Inuit tribe, called “huskies” by early Caucasian traders.

White Siberian Huskies were valued for their ability to blend into the snow, helping to thwart predators. Proving themselves time and again as one of man’s best friends, the Siberian Husky made it possible for man to extend his reach across lands that would otherwise have been unreachable. Admiral Robert Peary used Siberian Huskies as part of his expeditions in search of the North Pole. In 1925, Siberian Huskies heroically delivered diphtheria serum over six hundred miles snow to Nome, Alaska.

Poodle Information: What Makes A Good Poodle Rescue Centre?

by Lisa A Collins

Not all Poodle rescue centres are alike. Some actually aren’t Poodle rescue centres at all, but are puppy mills, or Poodle hoarders who really don’t know what they’re doing. There isn’t any parent organization that supervises all animal rescue centres. Basically, anyone can set up one, but they have to register it as a charity. Here is how to tell good from bad Poodle rescue centres.

First off, if you go online, there are many fine Poodle rescue centres that have websites, but there are also fraudulent ones. Sometimes these sites are scams with no dogs at all or are just fronts for puppy mills masquerading as a Poodle rescue centre. No legitimate Poodle rescue centre will ship their dogs or puppies out to you. They also will not accept applications from anyone who lives more than a few hours drive away. Poodle rescue centres usually do not have Teacup Poodles so don’t even bother asking.

Arthritis In Dogs - A Very Painful Disease

by Gary Pearson

It is painful for any owner to see their pet suffering from the agonizing pain of arthritis. The hurting can be seen in the animal’s eye and you have the great desire to do something to end the despair. You can actually do something about it now by preventing it from taking place and even checking the development of arthritis if the animal is already suffering.

Arthritis can strike dogs of any age, size, and physical condition. It’s still a mystery as to what causes arthritis, but many researchers suggest it is an autoimmune disease — a disease that causes the body to turn against its own immune system.

The cartilage is inclined to break down when the pet develops arthritis. The opaque connective tissue which is present between bone and joints is known as the cartilage and it protects them. It is also present in the ankle joint, hip and knees of the dogs. Feet or spine can also be affected by arthritis. With the wearing off of the cartilage there is pain, stiffness and swelling as the bones hit against each other.
