The Boston Terrier is a well loved and one of the few all-American dog breeds though he is, at the moment, not amongst the most popular dog breeds in America. Originally, he was derived from crossing of the English bulldog with the English Terrier and bred in Boston, which is how he got his name. The Boston Terrier was at one time well known for his aggressiveness though with careful breeding, this trait has been greatly eliminated from the breed.

No doubt, Boston Terrier breeding is an exciting activity though it is a breed that must be handled with extreme care to ensure that future generations of the breed do not deviate from the breed standards and are free from hereditary diseases that can easily be passed on to succeeding generations if breeding is performed indiscriminately. It is thus very important that all breeding activity be performed in a manner that eliminates the faults and highlights the advantages of this breed. It takes a great deal of planning and quite a large monetary and time investment to breed high quality Boston Terriers.

Ideally, Boston Terrier breeding is best left to the professional and well known breeders who know how to keep, raise and also provide best Boston Terrier care and who will also ensure that the best Boston Terrier characteristics are passed on to succeeding generations. However, many owners of the Boston Terrier are also excited about indulging in Boston Terrier breeding and for them being able to mate the Boston Terrier holds the main attraction as a means to make some good money. However, Boston Terrier breeding is not easily achieved and they will need to be guided by a professional if they are to have a good chance of succeeding.

One of the more important considerations in proper Boston Terrier breeding is to ensure that mating is done between healthy as well as compatible dogs as this will help ensure proper temperament and size as well as also the best characteristics of the breed will be passed on to the puppies. It is thus necessary to mate only those dogs that are healthy, compatible and will be able to produce robust puppies as well.

If you are not sure of what proper Boston Terrier breeding requires, it is better that you abstain from this activity because not only is proper breeding difficult, but it should also not be done in the form of trial and error.

There is thus no sure way of determining which type of Boston Terrier offspring will turn out to better.

However, it does mean that proper Boston Terrier care be given and because dogs are by nature very individualistic, it is hard to determine beforehand which type (pure or cross breed) will turn out to be the better. In fact, one can only compare them in general terms, though when engaged in Boston Terrier breeding, you should recognize that many genes are actually fixed that will in turn determine the outcome of your breeding practices.

Thus when you choose not to cross breed your Boston Terrier you will be able to know in advance how the puppies will look and behave.
