The time has come to bring a Boston Terrier into your family and you have decided that you want to deal with a Boston Terrier breeder so that you know what you are getting. However, like any other industry, there are fake Boston Terrier breeders out there that are trying to take advantage of unknowing owners. You want to make sure you avoid a fake Boston Terrier breeder or else you may get an unhealthy pet that could rack up huge vet bills on you and cause you and your family to make difficult decisions.

A sure way to tell if you have a real Boston Terrier breeder or not is if the breeder offers you pet insurance to extend coverage for six weeks after you have purchased the dog. Legitimate breeders get this pet insurance for free from insurance companies and the insurance companies hope that you will extend the coverage once the six weeks has elapsed. Only legitimate breeders get the free insurance and if you are not offered this insurance in writing then you may have a fake breeder.

Good breeders do not just disappear from your life as soon as the sale is over. Legitimate Boston Terrier breeders are part of you and your dog’s life for a long time after the purchase because it is the breeder’s name on your dog’s papers and their reputation on the line along with the life of your pet. If you find it impossible to get a hold of your breeder after the purchase, or your breeder can offer you no assistance or advice after the purchase, then the chances are you are dealing with a dishonest breeder.

Your breeder’s name is on your dog’s papers and so is your breeder’s reputation and an honest breeder cannot afford a bad reputation. A good breeder will help first time dog owners with detailed instructions about the feeding and care of your new pet and the legitimate breeder will also send home samples of the kinds of food you should be feeding your Boston Terrier as well.

There is nothing more important to your breeder for his business than his reputation for providing quality animals and being as professional as possible.

A breeder becomes successful based on a helpful and professional reputation and this is just one of the above and beyond services any legitimate breeder will offer.

A recognized breeder registry like the American Kennel Club is a standard by which all legitimate breeders adhere to and you should always buy your Boston Terriers only from those breeders in good standing with a breeder registry.

Before you purchase a Boston Terrier from any breeder always check out the breeder with the American Kennel Club to make sure you are dealing with a legitimate business.

In addition to the questions you’ll ask the breeder, you can expect them to have a few questions for you, the buyer, as well. After all, a reputable breeder has put time and effort into breeding this puppy and wants to make sure it is going to a good home. Some possible questions include:

    * Why have you decided on a a Boston Terrier instead of another breed? Are you aware of their special requirements (e.g., Bostons don’t do well in extreme heat or cold)?

    * What pets do you currently have? Have you had other pets in the past? What happened to them?

    * Do you live in a house or an apartment? Is your yard fenced?

    * How much time can you devote to exercising your dog?

These are just some of the questions a good Boston Terrier breeder may ask you. Be prepared!
