Commercial dog food - so many varieties to choose from and really no idea what I am buying. Does that sound familiar. Dog food labelling has got to be one of the most confusing things I have ever come accross.

The problem is there are so many types of dog food - dry dog food, wet dog food, organic dog food, well the list is endless. How do you really know what you are feeding your dog.

The bottom line is you don’t know what your dog is eating. The pet-food industry spend enormous sums of money to ensure that we believe all their claims. The food may be labelled as “meeting all your dogs needs” but unfortunately that is not so.

Here are a few points to remember the next time you need to buy your dog food.

Dog food contains numerous additives, colourings and preservatives.

The food is full of dead animals, bones, blood, head, feet and because dead and sick animals can be used in pet food some of the drugs that were used to treat or euthanize them may still be present after the manufacturing process.

Dog food companies promote their food as containing “human grade ingredients”. Unfortunately this is incorrect.

A variety of diseases in dogs have been associated with commercial dog food and their ingredients.

We all want what is best for our dog so please remember the petfood industry is extremely profitable ($25 billion per annum worldwide). They use state of the art advertising which will not enable you to make an informed decision regarding your dogs diet. You must step back from the hype and learn what is really in your dogs bowl.

I started to research the commercial dog food industry after the shocking death of my 5 year old Newfoundland. I had no idea that the food I was feeding her was killing her.
