During dog shows and competitions, dogs are closely examined to see if they possess the criteria that are common to its breed standard. These fun and exciting events are commonly organized by kennel clubs and breed clubs. Examining specific breeds is only done at specialty shows.
Judging is based on the standards set prior to the show by the judges of the show. Because judgments are subjective, it becomes extremely hard to choose dogs which match the set standards laid out for the show. It is not a matter of comparing one dog to another but to the judge’s image of an ideal dog which meet the breed standard almost perfectly. Selecting the winning dog requires it comes up to the breed standard necessary and that is the objective of the dog show.
