When a dog is given Crate training you need not worry about its age till it reaches the elderly stage. Though training the dog during the puppy hood is not the only option. The age is not a factor to crate a dog; also all dogs cannot be crated.
A fully grown up dog, may find it difficult to be caged, but if this is the case, then one can opt to baby gating in a confined kitchen area.
During the petting of a fully grown dog, they should not be left there for a long time as they are older and they may tend to suffer from joint pains and rigidness, while they also do not have the same amount of control as they had when they were young. Training depends on the ways followed. First one can let the dog get used in staying in a spacious pet with the help of food and toys as incentives.
