It is possible to train the Shar Peis successfully if the trainer is patient and consistent. The dogs are good learners and they are quite intelligent. But the training can be complicated, and hence has to be handled with care. Friends and strangers alike admire a well-behaved dog and the family can feel proud of it.

In the beginning the Shar Pei obedience training takes a long time, because the puppy is learning and experiencing a lot for the first time. Once this initial stage is over, the process speeds up. Nevertheless training sessions should be short, otherwise there can be a lot of frustration for you and the puppy if things don’t work out the way you want them.

The best way to train the Shar Pai is by using simple commands, by praising it and giving rewards. Commands should be short and easily understandable, for example sit or play. Simple and short commands are better to capture the dog’s attention than saying sit down here puppy or stay there, don’t move.

Raising Your Labrador Pup

by Brooke Sunderland

Labrador Retrievers have done astonishing things like become rescue dogs and companions for the physically disabled. How did those Labradors begin training? Just like any other properly raised Labrador pup - with a lot of patience, persistence and a large dose of good humor. Although not every Labrador can safely become a rescue or assistance dog, becoming your friend is really all you need your Labrador to do. And that can take hard work sometimes.

Labrador puppies cannot be successfully trained unless they have regular exercise. They need at least two walks of a half hour a day until they are adults and can be taken down to one walk a day (depending on the individual). They also need social interaction with their people, proper chew toys and structure in their day and night.
